First Day Back: A Novel

A glimpse at the California seaport town of San Pedro and its discontented business community during the closing days of the Vietnam conflict, seen through the eyes of Timbo, a young ad salesman who has just returned to his old job at the Daily Beacon after spending several years in San Francisco where he recently broke off with his girlfriend, Jeannie.
In the course of his first day back Timbo begins to realize that Vietnam and the passing of time have irreparably changed the town, the newspaper, the merchants, the returning veterans, even himself and his relationship with Jeannie.
