Colombia in April 2002. From the kidnapping of an American eco-tourism
operator in Venezuela to the launching of a nationwide counterinsurgency
operation by an elite, secretive unit of the Colombian Army, An American
Sojourn is a compelling and suspenseful story of adventure and misadventure,
romance, and current affairs in contemporary Colombia. It is also a thoughtful
and insightful portrait of the contrasts and complexities of a nation of people
trying to live ordinary lives in extraordinary times.
