Beautiful Scars

I was born and raised in beautiful
South Africa, then I came to the
United States a year ago to work
abroad. To be exposed to another
culture and country half way across
the world fl ooded me with a whole
lot of emotion. During this time
pen, paper and prayer became my
most loyal companions.
What started out as songwriting
turned into poetry, it became a
temporary refuge where I could
pour myself onto paper. Inspired by the amazing people I met on my journey,
to the ones who left but did not leave my life untouched. In those moments of
overwhelming joy and also sadness I would fi nd myself hiking to a desolate hilltop
with my guitar, and then after spending time with God I would write what I felt.
I am easily drawn to people's emotions and as an outsider I can easily see the
beauty in the brokeness, like precious fl owers blooming in the middle of a vast
desert. Embedded in these pages is a short journey, one where I was broken and
healed all at once.... I never thought I would publish it.
I am humble in knowing that I am fortunate to be able to write... We are stronger
than we seem. And although we fall we will always get back up, there is a Stronger
hand at work in our lives.
