A disgraced former TV reporter is in Old Las Vegas under the alias Henry Smith, hoping to quietly score and pass on through with his suspiciously consistent winnings, the money freshly cursed and too toxic to even spend. Xavier 'recruits' Henry into checking out a rumor: a pair of plantation slave ghosts, supposedly wreaking vengeance for over a century, against the first-born sons of two old and prominent planter families in Wainwright County, Mississippi. Henry arrives, tracked by a news crew from the show, who ultimately allow the ghosts to affect thousands of viewers across the globe. Henry struggles to maintain his nerves, his life, and his sanity as the haunted and steamy Southern Gothic stew of the Delta threatens to consume him.
