For as long as Ryan could remember, he had an affinity for weapons. He trained in martial arts from almost the moment he could walk. But he was not violent. He avoided fights and his weapons were only used on inanimate objects for target practice.
When he lost his mother a car accident during his pre-teen years, Ryan's life changed. Pain and rage turned him cold. He eventually joined the military to give himself an outlet for his anger. He excelled and was recruited as an assassin for a covert agency. Ryan felt neither remorse nor pleasure when he killed, but he was not completely without a conscious, so he justified his actions by convincing himself that he killed for his country.
And then his life changed again. The organization turned on him. His grandfather told Ryan that their bloodline originated with warrior gods that existed thousands of years earlier on the other side an invisible barrier that separated their world from a world of magic. Ryan was convinced his grandfather had grown senile . . . until he was suddenly pulled into that world.
Instead of fighting covert, high-tech wars, he found himself in medieval-style battles against swords, sorcery, and various magical creatures; all in an effort to save that world that was not even his own. Worst of all, the weapon he was required to use robbed him of his life force and revealed his fate: Eternal damnation for the lives he had taken.
