The book potrays the human emotional and internal family conflict that influenced the creation of Rome. It depicts the conflict between the twins Romulus and Remus on one hand and with their father, King Amilius on the other hand. It depicts the subsequent wars between the latins, Spartans, Etruscans and Greeks.
