Lily Mason is newly married to Jason Waters when the war between the states begins. Soon she must leave her beloved home of South Carolina and travel to her husband's family plantation in Virginia. She is forced to travel on horse back with her slave, Jo. They meet up and travel with a small caravan and a handsome trapper named Chase.
