Newly retired Commander John Novack, United States Navy, begins a new career as a nuclear specialist consultant from Massena, New York.

In the early ’90s he is drawn into the use of the Internet as a business necessity. He meets Marilyn Wood, a mother seeking information about a daughter’s eye problem.

Marilyn, a literary editor from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, working almost exclusively on the Internet, becomes fascinated by this naval officer. After a year or more of correspondence, she reluctantly agrees to meet him for an innocent dinner engagement.
