MICHELANGELO: Faces And Anatomy In His Art

In 1990, Frank Lynn Meshberger noticed the anatomy of the brain in The Creation of Adam on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. This discovery triggered a revolution in how we look at the work of Renaissance artists. Many of us looked for other anatomical representations hidden in Michelangeloâ??s art and we found a grand face in The Last Judgment, a heart in the Pieta, a kidney in the Separation of the Land and Water, a brainstem in the Separation of Light and Darkness, female reproductive organs in The Fall of Man, and more. The possibility that the Mary represented in The Last Judgment is Mary Magdalene is also raised. This book describes what has been found to date in Michelangeloâ??s art.
