Promenade

“Smeeth lies like a ladder abandoned along the railway tracks in southern Saskatchewan.“ So begins Promenade, a mystery set in a small town on the doorstep of an Indian Reserve. There isn’t much to do, so the women spend their evenings walking and talking. The story is told by the community nurse and a young boy. They become entangled in events that include a fi re, a break-in, elder abuse, counterfeiting, and murder. The promenade provides a window on the community as it struggles to cope in an atmosphere of unrelenting heat and interracial tension.
