Sand in Tuscany

Sand in Tuscany is a “nostalgic” view of hard times, war, and unlikely romance, seasoned with a reverential undertone and humor. It is an enjoyable story in which one learns to identify with the saying that once you get Sand Mountain sand in your shoes you can never get it out. It is the story of Jim Frederickson, a young man growing up in the 1920’s and 1930’s, a demanding time we now characterize as the Great Depression, and his war experiences in the 1940’s. It is also the story of Rossalina Domitti, a young woman longing for hope in war-torn Tuscany. Jim’s experiences take him far from his beloved home on Sand Mountain, a plateau in Northeastern Alabama on the edge of the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, to the war-ravaged mountains and plains of Italy, where God alone orchestrates a destined meeting with Rossalina.
