Shock Peace: The Search for Freedom

It is about Trinh’s journey, a fictional account based on historical facts and personal experiences. Trinh had woven through life with various other characters in the society, from young children, young adults, adults, soldiers, veteran, disabled veteran, widow, prostitute, bar girl, an Amerasian, to re-educated camp prisoners, etc. She was a Vietnamese teenager, had lived through the dark days that led to the Fall of Saigon in 1975 and three years under the new regime before escaping by boat to Malaysia in 1978. Shock Peace is a novel based on Trinh’s family ‘warts and all’ experience from the fear and devastation of being forced to flee one’s own country to refugee status, freedom and gradual acceptance in a totally foreign land. Shock Peace is believed to be the first book written in English by a refugee with firsthand experience of life under the rule of the brutish Vietcong, and an account of the trials and triumphs of refugees who lost and found in a fiction based on fact.
