Webster describes a boundary as being “something that marks or shows a limit or end. A separation.” For our purposes I am identifying the boundaries that we create or accept that separate us from one another and from ourselves. Boundaries are invisible but the results of our boundaries are very visible. Like the wind! Sometimes a boundary we own comes from our parents or from hundreds of years of tradition. We often take it on unconsciously and without question. Like breathing out and breathing in. Boundaries that separate us from ourselves are not as obvious and tougher to identify and to confront. These can also separate us from others. For example, I have a friend who is obsessed with her body. She too often worries about her weight and what she is wearing. This prevents her from being who she really is and from respecting who she is, no matter what. Not being comfortable with ourselves separates us from others. This comes from a self-centeredness that prevents us from considering others.
