‘I was not pregnant before marriage, contrary to the prevalent practice in our society at the time. The belief within our culture was that this would reduce the anxiety of conception for the newly-weds. It was considered unwise to risk not conceiving before one ties the knot. We had made attempts prior to getting married, but it just didn’t happen. I guess our long courtship of ten years had created a stronger bond that far outweighed the fear of childlessness.’
