Mama's Teardrops from Heaven

How could Mama know, when she first met her future in-laws, what a horrible life she would endure? It is true that the Gamils rudely rejected the young Jewess and that Papaâs fervor cooled after that meeting; but, by that time Mama was already entangled in a relentless web that would ultimately destroy her.
A puzzling network of religious hatred, it became one that haunted me and my seven siblings throughout our lives in Algeria, later in my life in America and, finally, called me back to Castiglione to seek out the weaver of this tapestry: my father, Sébastien Gamil.
