Swisher's Decision

Swisher’s Decision was created to teach children about the dangers of doing things “just because others are doing them”. I specifically used fish for the story because of the schooling actions of fish. It is easy to put Swisher in the position of a child (or anyone else) who doesn’t want to alone- who wants to belong. Sometimes because we want to belong, we find ourselves doing things with which we are not comfortable. Sometimes, we ‘go along’ with others because “we don't want to be left out” when we could be doing something we enjoy more. For many, these tendencies last a life time. Teaching our children to “JUST SAY NO!” is harder than encouraging them with “Having the courage to say NO.” Many adults need to learn the lesson as well, after all, we all want to fit In and to belong.
