The Quantum Mechanics Age: A Guide Through the Universe

When I would start to teach my basic college introductory telecommunications classes, I would often ask high school graduates and working adults who took the course to raise their hands if they had any clear idea of how an electric light worked. Only once in a while a hand would go up. It seems that many people can graduate from high school and even obtain many types of college degrees and still have no idea of how most electronic devices work. Seeing as I taught college in two different fields, when I would also start to teach a college level introductory psychology course, I would often ask students to raise their hands if they understood the basic parts of the human brain and how these parts worked together. Even in this fairly well-known social science field, very few hands would go up. With the very rapid advancements in science, electronics, and computer technology, if I asked you, the reader, to raise your hand if you already understand the basics of the topics covered in this guide, could you raise your hand?
