Liang Zang is born to Chinese peasant farmers, who help him become educated. He earns an engineering degree from Beijing University and a doctorate from Cal Tech. He starts work with Mitchell Manufacturing in Chicago and makes numerous trips to China to coordinate with Chinese factories. After gaining US citizenship, he works on top secret military technology. While his parents are visiting, he is accused of leaking the technology to the Chinese, is jailed and, if convicted, faces the death penalty. His girlfriend, Kate Mitchell, tries valiantly to save him. Then Liang learns a shocking truth about Kate.
