Korean American internist David Kim and his wife, Japanese American plastic surgeon Gloria Kim, practice in Beverly Hills, California. He was educated at Yale University and its medical school and she at Harvard University and its medical school. They both trained in their specialty at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Both physicians were pressured by their parents to achieve their successful and respected status. They decided to not subject their two teenage children, Nora and Mark, to the same ordeal. What happens to this Asian American family with its lifestyle diametrically diff erent from that related by the Tiger Mom is what this book is about.
