Our parents’ lives were filled with numerous, tremendous hardships and difficult hurdles. Their enduring love for each other and their family made them stronger in spite of life’s many roadblocks and detours. They were able to enjoy their retirement years in North and South Carolina—our dear father, Clemens, lived to the age of ninety years, and our loving mother, Marianne, left us at age ninety-six years.
