Mondays are nobody's favorite day and, when Maigret's week begins with a corpse found stabbed to death in a Parisian alley, the Inspector sees a flaw. Murders are rarely committed on Mondays, and this exception leads to other eccentricities - for example, the victim had taken to sitting alone on a bench dressed in clothes that were strikingly out of character. These clues lead to the cause of this nasty crime - and reveal the tale of a deadly marriage.
