I am sitting at home in Cape Town when I receive a chilling text message from my sister. She is 8691 kilometers away in Perth, Australia and writes”….transported by ambulance to hospital for some blood disorder”. I have this terrible feeling that our lives are going to be turned upside down. Lollie ignores my messages and calls, but when I finally get hold of her she confesses to having ACUTE MYOLITIC LEUKEMIA. I have to make an emergency flight to Australia to be at her side and after 9 excruciating days of pleading, bribing and maxing out my credit card I am finally on my way to Oz. The fight for her life has started… What follows is the harrowing story of over a year of intense struggle and deepest gloom, followed by periods of real hope. It finally gives way to incredible joy, relief and the affirmation that life is precious and worth any fight.
