First serialized and then published in 1891, Tess of the d’Ubervilles is set in Victorian England and presents the moving story of Tess Durbeyfield, whose poor family sends her away to secure a connection when they discover they may be related to the wealthy d’Ubervilles. Despite her initial reluctance, Tess finds hope and love, but the happiness of her future is overshadowed when she faces an impossible decision.
