Marriages of the Magdalene

This novel breaks through centuries of dogma and legend to uncover the lost beginnings of Christianity by reimagining the untold stories of Mary Magdalene and John the Beloved. The narrator, long-time friend Naphtali, wants to set the record straight about their inspirational lives. The story begins in first-century Palestine seething under Roman rule and suffocating religious conventions. The young man who will be called John is limited by patriarchal Judaism. His rebellious wife, Mary, follows heretical goddess traditions, but in secret. Then Jesus the prophet enters their lives and challenges them to walk mystical paths of inner development. Acting on this impulse liberates them from old thinking and attitudes, as they dare to live in freedom and express unconditional love that allows them to be who they are.
