Crying Flower Petals: Selected Poems, Essays and Memories

If you have ever wanted to read poems from prison, or perhaps you desire to teach writing to inmates or patients, this is the collection for you. Each bit of verse is intensely personal and representative of one mental health patient’s attempts to write meaningful work in a prison setting. Over three year’s time, I was fortunate enough to produce this book in a writing workshop offered to inmates in California. The work is not pretentious and touches on the familiar and at times dark world of prison. Most of the book consists of free verse poetry with a few short stories. There are many subjects conjured from memories of life before incarceration. Paramount, if you are looking for a poetry collection from which you could pull examples to facilitate a group of your own, this book is ideal.
