Sympathy and Envy

Who may be held ultimately responsible for the two malign paradoxes defining the present age: (1) the conviction of the Germans, notwithstanding that the evidence adduced against them did not meet the burden of proof, or (2) the acquittal of O. J. Simpson, notwithstanding that the evidence adduced against him did meet the burden of proof? Who indeed? Who if not the liberal?
