The New Calvinism: New Reformation or Theological Fad?

In recent years, there has been a surge in interest in the doctrines of grace, the Protestant Reformers, and sound biblical theology which has been labelled as New Calvinism. But is this new trend really any different from 'old Calvinism'? Does it offer any lasting transformation to the spiritual lethargy which has overgrown the church?
