Looking at Chuck Close: Drawings by David Stoltz

In 1999, when I first drew Chuck Close, whom I have known since the early SoHo days, I had no idea that I was embarking on a series that would eventually comprise eighty-one drawings. But I found myself returning to the subject at four different periods over the next sixteen years.

In this book the drawings from each period are arranged into a sequence, and the four periods,
taken in order, tell the story of my evolving appreciation of what Chuck means to me.
