Black Codes

This is not your typical book of poetry. You will not read about love

between two lovers. You will not read about heartbreak. You will

not read about sex. You will read about love.

The kind of love that some of us are born with. The kind of love

that is passed down for generations. The kind of love that is truly

blind. The kind of love that strengthens character. The kind of love

that brings awareness relentlessly.

A picture will be painted through words. It is not a pretty picture;

however, it is an honest picture. The beauty comes afterward, when

stereotypical judgment loses its strength and unconditional love

redeems its power.

I am inherently passionate about who I am and where my family

comes from. I am committed to empowering our youth in both

black and Latino communities. This is love.
