Captain William H. Morgan, of Company C, 11th Virginia, recounts his experiences "in camp, in bivouac, on the march, on picket, on the skirmish line, on the battlefield, and in prison." In addition, he gives a history of Kemper's Brigade and Pickett's Division. Captain Morgan fought valiantly until the last year of the war, when he was captured and held a prisoner of war at Fort Delaware. Until the last, Captain Morgan was unreconstructed and still loved his old flag. On the last Flag Day his Confederate flag, six feet long, floated over his office.
