LOVE WALKS A WINDING PATH

Odelia, daughter and sole heir of Orgetorix, the most feared of the Helvetian (Swiss) chieftains, is one of the few women Caesar mentions in his Gallic Wars, Orgetorix has secret plans to occupy the rich lands of Gaul (France), insisting he has no fear of the Roman retaliation. Among his secret plans, kept secret even from Odelia, is one that pledges her in marriage not to their own lead warrior who loves her but to the King of the wealthy Aeduan Gauls, a man Odelia finds most unworthy for, although handsome and rich, all there is to him is a pleasant smile. Odelia knows no man can rule with only a pleasant smile. But, as her father's sole heir, she must honor her father's pact. She becomes Dumnorix' unwilling bride as Gaul prepares to receive a new Roman commander, Julius Caesar. As events foreshadow the violence and destruction to come as tribes battle the Romans and each other, Odelia finds that nothing and no one is as simple as she thought, and neither is love.
