THE LITTLE GODS

In 1908 Calista Strathern, the acknowledged although penniless beauty of Nanaimo and, unofficially, the fiancée of one of Vancouver's most eligible young bachelors, was trying her best to oppose her mother's plan of marrying off Callie's older sister Chloe to a much older although wealthy British export-import businessman based in Shanghai, China. Nor could Callie understand her sister's complacent acceptance of such an alliance. Yet, within a few months, due to circumstances she could never have foreseen, Callie finds herself on a ship headed for Shanghai as well, to a world so very different in many ways and a world where Callie learns a great deal about men, love and marriage as well as about herself.
