In the mid 20th century, Dr. Tom Halverson, a gifted surgeon in repair, suffocated by the politics of the prestigious hospital where he works and aware that going "back home" to the Montana ranch is no answer, feels that his soul is dying within him. So, in the hope of setting his career and his life once again on a path he had envisioned and against the advice of everyone, he accepts an offer from a doctor in Mexico whom he had met during their internship and who is now starting his own clinic. From the outset, Tom finds his new colleagues congenial and the opportunities for medical experience exactly what he hoped. But the woman was a complete surprise. Because of her, because of his friend, because of circumstances, Tom finds that he is unwittingly being pulled into a high level but dark and violent political intrigue as well as an impossible but passionate love affair.
