Athena v. Aphrodite

In modern relationships, sometimes a girl can use a little help from the goddesses of antiquity! Alice is cool, calm, always in control. She prides herself on acting rationally, leveraging logic, depending on data. Being assigned to a project with Dan Mason presents no obvious peril. Sure, he’s ridiculously handsome, easy-going, understatedly sexy. The proximity is not a problem. Even after Dan shows his playful side, opens up to her, reveals a darker, vulnerable facet of himself. Even after he seeks her friendship and blurs the lines of that friendship repeatedly. Nope, no heart hazards here. Alice’s best friend Benny isn’t buying it. He’s wary when Alice shows signs of developing a crush on Dan, then outright alarmed when the crush appears to be evolving . . . But Alice isn’t worried. Maintaining control is her thing. She doesn’t do illogical. Or irrational. So what if she’s feeling a little lust toward Dan? Alice always lets reason dictate her actions. She venerates Athena, the goddess of wisdom, for Olympus’ sake! She is perfectly capable of containing the situation. If she were to occasionally channel Aphrodite, what harm could that do? As long as she keeps her head. Surely there are times when a girl should follow the advice of Athena and times when she should follow the advice of Aphrodite. For Alice, figuring out which goddess to heed and when is causing quite a clash between her head and heart.
