I’m Melanie and my life always seemed pretty great. I got a new car for my birthday and I live in a gorgeous house full of expensive things. For a while my mom was even making progress with her therapist. Things were looking up—until my dad discovered what was really going on during those therapy sessions. And now my dad is dead. Maybe my mom’s therapy hasn’t been working that well after all. The police are starting to come around, investigating the car accident that killed my dad. It almost seems like they think the grisly crash wasn’t accidental at all… Money really can’t buy happiness—the many tragedies that befall Melanie and her family, including abuse, mental illness and crime make this an engrossing tale of a perfect family and how they just might not be so perfect after all.
