This book is divided into segments describing the emotions which surfaced in the days, weeks and months which passed during the first year after the death of the author's husband. It reflects a transition in her emotions with the passage of time. It begins with the shock and horror that ensues with of an engulfment of grief after the unexpected event. It ends with a greater acceptance of his passage, experienced through an eternal perspective and an appreciation of the words of St Francis of Assisi: "It is through dying we are born into eternal life."
