Martha realizes that she will morw than likely be hung for murdering her attacker, even though she was defending herself.

Her mother and father have both died and she decides to fulfill her fathers dream of joining a wagon train and beginning the long journey to Oregon. This is the beginning of a dangerous journey across the US as part of a wagon train.

She is joined along the way by 5 other women who have all been abused. They show up as very strong and purpose driven women. They fight off indians, fend off desperados, and survive raging rivers with their wagon and good. This all evolves into several of the most powerful and beautiful love stories ever told.
