Through My Eyes: 91st Infantry Division in the Italian Campaign, 1942-45

The author shares his experience of being ordered to bring in artillery fire upon the Leaning Tower of Pisa declining to do so, he thus saved the tower. This is a true account of an average Joe's infantry clays before, during and shortly after the furiously-fought battle for Italy. From his front row seat, the author was able to watch and report, with open-mouthed disbelief and nauseating repulsion, the shocking amount of casualties our men suffered the bloody hell our infantry agonized through, as inch-by-inch they struggled to disgorge the elite Wermacht from heavily fortified pillbox positions.
