Soul Decision: A Collection of Poems

The Soul Decision is a collection of poetry presented in a trilogy of work, In Awe of the Journey and including the previously published books The Nature of Darkness and Inspired by Their Spirits. The new collection continues telling the story in verse of the saga of a family under siege. When the book Inspired By Their Spirits ends we want to believe that Valerie, age four, has been cured and that our lives will take on a "normal" course of living. So the opening poems of In Awe Of The Journey have a optimistic, joyous tone to them, but within five months we would realize that something was seriously wrong with our daughter, something drastically wrong. We would soon learn that Valerie has the life threatening illness Hydrocephalus. The emotional roller coaster had begun, only the stakes were much higher. Our lives and actions would be determined by the status of Valerie's health on any given day, knowing that at any moment things could change drastically. When Valerie is healthy we are living life to its fullest, but when Valerie is stricken with illness we are fighting for our lives. We have learned the hard lesson that when illness strikes a family most people turn away overcome by fear that somehow that illness will become theirs through contact with us. The last selection of poems detail how we pick up our lives and a few belongings, moving to Phoenix to finally find the answer to some semblance of peace for Valerie. The book is written in nine emotional beats. The reader will sense when life is good and when life has taken a turn down the wrong path. One never knows when one's life will be derailed. This is a Universal Truth.
