Volume One of the North Carolina Defender Manual is a resource for public defenders and appointed counsel who represent poor people accused of crimes. The book focuses on the principal areas of pretrial criminal procedure in North Carolina. Fifteen chapters cover a variety of topics, such as: capacity to proceed; discovery;criminal pleadings; speedy trial; and suppression motions. The manual includes cases decided by the courts through June 30, 2013, and legislation enacted by the North Carolina General Assembly through the end of its 2013 legislative session.
