Periodic Hemodynamics in Health and Disease

This book is about animal-experimental and clinical studies on periodic hemodynamics (p.h.) at the microcirculation level, often also referred to as vasomotion and flowmotion. After an introduction on terminology and history of research on periodic hemodynamics, various models and methods to study this phenomenon at the microcirculation level are presented. The author also addresses various controversially discussed current topics on flowmotion and vasomotion, such as the incidence of p.h. under normal physiological conditions and why there is so much dispute on this subject; the control mechanisms of p.h., the pacemaker control theory; the influence of general anesthetics on p.h.; the correlation between vasomotion and flowmotion, and finally the physiological significance of p.h.
