Identity Matters: Communication-Based Explorations and Explanations

Exploring how identity is materialized in and through communication practices, eight students in the communications, information, and library studies PhD program at Rutgers U. illuminate a range of topics concerning identity including age, culture, design, gender, play, and support. Editor Mokros is the Rutgers professor who guided the research contained in the volume. Among the topics: a constitutive approach to identity, a study of identity in an online cancer support group, and encounters between adolescents and staff within one school library. The book may serve as a text for undergraduate and graduate courses in communication theory, interpersonal communications, small group processes, and research methods.
