If you're like author Christy Bower, you've probably wondered at times if God really loves you. You know that Christ died for you—but He died for others too. You yearn to experience the love that God showed to Abraham, Moses, and David. God loved them as individuals, and He interacted with them in specific ways in response to the circumstances in their lives.
The good news is that God wants to respond to us in the same way that He responded to the needs of the people we read about in the Bible. Through the life experiences of Bible characters like Paul, Mary of Bethany, Job, and Peter, the author shows us how to learn to recognize the ways God demonstrates His love for us as individuals as we bring our needy hearts to Him.
Christy captures the longing of our hearts as she takes a closer look at the problem: We want “to be in a relationship [with God] that is personally relevant and dynamic … We want a page-turner that keeps us engaged from beginning to end with love, drama, constant action, and ever-present hope in spite of impossible circumstances.”
If we begin to pay attention, we will notice God's gestures of love toward us, and His tokens of love will lead us back to Him. When we trust God and turn to Him, we can enjoy the blessing of being best friends with God.
