This entertaining dictionary of the language and legends of seafarers of the 21st century contains all the words known by Jack Lagan about the sea—which turns out to be hundreds of terms ranging from bumkin and fiddle block, to global positioning system and whisky. The cross-referenced definitions carry equal value for reference as they do for humor, and often are accompanied by bits of nautical history or sailor lore, passages from classic books of the sea, or by Lagan's experiences aboard his junk-rigged schooner.
