Paying the Piper: Music in Pre-1642 Cheshire

This volume focuses on early music in the county of Cheshire from the late Middle Ages to the beginning of the English Civil War, with a focus upon music outside the regular control of the Church. Baldwin, who is part of the Records of Early English Drama project on Cheshire, studies both trained and untrained musicians, both professional and amateur, who provided entertainment at guild feasts, in alehoues, and in gentry households.
