In 1899, railroad tycoon Edward Harriman assembled a company of exceptional characters including John Burroughs, John Muir, Edward Curtis, William Dall, George Bird Grinnell, and Louis Agassiz Fuertes. They cruised glacial fjords, collected specimens, and photographed Alaska's native peoples.
