Parkinson's Disease

Fifteen papers from an October 2000 conference review the role of receptors, ion channels, and proteins in the etiology of Parkinson's disease, and report on clinical experience with novel drug candidates. The contributors explore models of basal ganglia function, the treatment of drug-induced psychosis and depression, and a novel anti- parkinsonian agent with anti-depressant and anxiolytic properties. Other topics include neuronal cell death and apoptosis in neurodegenerative diseases, parkinsonian features of the ataxia- telangiectasia and atm-deficient mice, and an immortalized neuronal cell line derived from the substantia nigra of a rat.
