Cestode Zoonoses: Echinococcosis and Cysticercosis: An Emergent and Global Problem

Bringing together experts in parasite biology, ecology, geography, medicine, and veterinary sciences to consider disease status of tapeworm zoonoses, with an emphasis on epidemiology and transmission ecology, this volume presents 32 contributions addressing disease status, re-emergence, and spread; tools and methods for diagnostic, transmission, and epidemiological studies; wildlife ecology and transmission of Echinococcus; and approaches for control. While not comprehensive, due to prior coverage of cystic echinococcosis/hydatidosis (CE) in Latin America in a recent workshop, among other topics, the volume nevertheless provides an important update and review of recent advances in the study and control of tapeworm zoonoses, including emergence and re-emergence of disease in Europe, Africa, and Central Asia.
