Women and Civil War: Impact, Organizations, and Action

Social scientists mostly from the US, and workers with national and international agencies contribute to the fourth in a series of publications emerging from evaluation studies by the US Agency for International Development. Among their findings are that women are not passive spectators in civil wars, that women's organizations often play an important role in dealing with challenges of the war and in transforming traditional gender relations, and that the international community has assisted women and women's organizations in war-torn societies in a variety of ways.
