Peace in Tatters: Israel, Palestine, and the Middle East

Meital (Middle East studies, Ben Gurion U.) presents a historical narrative of the Israeli-Palestinian peace process that, to a large extent, locates the failure to find a resolution to the conflict in mutual misunderstandings, refusals to address root causes, and the influence of internal political contexts of Israeli and Palestinian society on policies adopted by leaders. The Oslo peace process is scrutinized in terms of domestic Israeli and Palestinian attempts to undermine the agreements and failures of American diplomacy. The impact of the second Intifada and the September 11th attacks in the United State are also considered in terms of how they undermined the political process of negotiations and the US commitment to resolving the Arab-Israeli conflict.
